Empathy Map
Any successful entrepreneur or CEO will tell you that the first step in creating a viable business plan is to understand what niche in the market you plan on filling. To understand this, you have to take a deep look into the mind of the average consumer and identify certain needs they may possess that the current market fails to adequately satisfy.
Following this, it’s important to take this inward reflection even deeper by asking yourself, “Will they accept my solution to this need and at what cost?”. Another pertinent question is, “What challenges would the average consumer encounter when utilizing my products or services?”. These are just a few basic questions that you as an entrepreneur must answer before crafting a viable market solution.
At this point, it has become clear that a significant amount of retrospection into the mind of a consumer is required. That is to say, businesses must fully submerge themselves into the customer's experience and understand every facet of their interaction, both with the current problem you seek to solve and your proposed solutions as well.
This is an absolutely necessary step that many new and old businesses have been punished for not adequately utilizing. To correctly carry out this process it is necessary that businesses adopt a vital, but often overlooked skill — empathy.
